We all have the issue: leftover pizza sauce, or leftover spaghetti sauce. I don’t know if you are like me, but even though I prefer to make my own sauce, I always keep a can of spaghetti sauce on hand. My family, in a pinch, uses the sauce (not containing tomatoes, or any chunky type thing) for pizza as well. When we use these, we always end up with extra sauce just sitting in the fridge.
Even when I make our sauce, a little mason jar of red sauce mocks me from our middle shelf.
What do you do with it? Me? I forget about it once it gets pushed to the back of the fridge until one day I clean the shelf and find it. Not knowing how long it has been there, I opt to throw it out rather than get sick.
I will forever use my sauce as a dip. Its something that I used to like whenever we would order pizza and bread-sticks; but since I never make bread-sticks at home, I’ve never really thought about it before.
Yesterday, I saw a perfectly good pita (only one, so can’t use it for dinner for me and my husband), and thought, “hmmm…that would be good with that lonely jar of sauce”.
Man…it was good, and it hit the spot. I actually took it with my lunch and didn’t end up eating anything else.
